Scientists map the river delta in unprecedented detail

Drones and sonar produced a map accurate to ten centimetres.

Scientists have mapped the Aurel river delta in more detail than ever before, using drones above the water and sonar below it.

The map, accurate to ten centimetres, shows that the delta has moved 300 metres seaward in 50 years, as silt from farmland upstream builds new banks.

The data is free to download, and the team hopes farmers, shipping companies and flood planners will all use it.
